Oval-cut Diamond
Created by Lazare Kaplan and introduced in the 1960s, the oval is a stretched round brilliant-cut that can radiate tremendous brilliance and fire. Classical and elegant, oval-cut diamonds give a flattering illusion of length to the finger of the wearer. Oval shapes are longer than equal-weight round diamonds, resulting in more size per carat weight.
A high quality oval cut diamond will have a length to width ratio of 1.5:1. Should the oval cut diamond's ratio be greater than 1.5:1, an undesirable effect called the bow-tie can be seen.

Choosing an Oval Shaped Diamond
Like round-cut diamonds, oval cut diamonds reflect light brilliantly and have the highest value when there is no color at all. You should consider the overall clarity and color of the stone when choosing an oval-cut diamond. In contrast to round cut diamonds, clarity and color are much more important to the oval cut diamond as inclusions can be identified much easier. Oval cut diamonds can be a stylish alternative to a round cut diamond as it displays similar characteristics but is still unique in shape.
