Radiant-cut Diamond (cut-cornered, rectangular or square)

A stunning shape that combines the brilliance of a round-cut with the elegance of an emerald-cut, the radiant was introduced some 20 years ago. The radiant-cut is primarily square or close to it. Comprised of 70 facets - more facets than round brilliant-cut - radiant-cut diamonds can show considerable brilliance. Radiant cuts are principally used for important center stones, but are also ideal for pendants which utilize fancy-color diamonds, as the radiant-cut shape brings out an abundance of color.

The standard number of facets of a Radiant Shape Diamond is generally 70 facets (25 on the crown, 8 on the girdle & 37 on the pavilion). Generally if you are looking for a square cut, a Radiant Shape's length to width ratio is approximately 1.0 to 1.1:1. For a more rectangular shape, look for a ratio 1.11 to 1.5:1.
